Caitlin Canty Newsletter - New Shows, Tennessee Waltz
I'm sitting at home in Nashville with the windows open wide. I love how the night sounds. Walking my dog tonight, I found that a neighbor left a bucket full of flowers on the corner of my road with a good sign: "Free Flowers." I'll pay the kindness forward as soon as my garden kicks in. It got a late start, thanks to a record release and wicked fun support tours for Josh Ritter and Mary Chapin Carpenter. The garden could wait!
I'm heading west to play Strawberry Fest in California next week, then down to Eddie's Attic for my Atlanta record release show with a new trio; Miss Tess on bass and Philippe Bronchtein on steel. The skyway takes me to Denver, Seattle, Portland and Berkeley with Peter Bradley Adams. If you're in New Orleans I'm playing a friend's urban farm in October, and then I'll fly to Newport to play with Peter Mulvey and Mark Erelli at Casino Theater. I feel lucky. TOUR
NEW OLD TEES
Buying tickets and coming out to shows is still the best way to cast your vote for music you love, followed by taking home a CD, LP, or an authentically tour-wrinkled tee. I've recently counted out some early tee designs and posted them online. Limited editions, random sizes, could probably call them vintage at this point. I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO
Punch Brothers' brilliant new record, All Ashore. Three of these fellas played on my record, Motel Bouquet and I'm obviously programmed to love this music, but it surprised me how much it moved me, how high my eyebrows went on repeat listens. And I think the heart and message of each song is right on.
Mandolin Orange's song, "Take This Heart of Gold" is just gorgeous. I wish I had fallen for this band years ago and caught hundreds of their shows. I'm catching up now.
I painted a few walls to Amanda Shires's new record, To the Sunset, and I really dig it and her words.
